Lulù, the Communication Barrier Breaker: A Board Game for Accessibility and Climate Action
Chiara Gunella (TransmediaCatalonia) – 16th of December 2024
The GreenSCENT board game “Lulù, the Communication Barrier Breaker” was a finalist in the 2025 II Convocatòria de Solucions Disruptives. This engaging game raises awareness about accessibility in the context of climate change and environmental education.
Inspired by the classic game of the goose, players help Lulù, an environmental activist, organize an inclusive event. The goal is to ensure accessibility through practices like adding subtitles to videos, using ramps for mobility access, and providing alternative text for images.
The game features five types of spaces:
- Neutral spaces: No penalties or rewards.
- Reward spaces: Promote good accessibility practices with extra moves.
- Penalty spaces: Highlight missed accessibility steps, requiring players to move back.
- Action spaces: Challenge players with tasks like crafting accessible hashtags or creating inclusive posters.
- Emergency exits: Move players to the nearest exit, forward or backward.
Lulù offers two versions: a ready-to-play version with pre-set rules and an editable version for customizing action cards and scenarios. It can be adapted for schools, event organizers, businesses, or any setting to foster inclusivity and collaboration while learning about accessibility.
This innovative board game combines fun and learning, helping players bridge the gap in accessibility knowledge and creating a more inclusive world.
The boardgame will be available online soon.
